Kron/Cousins UBVRI Filters
Kron/Cousins UBVRI filters represent Andover's precision solution for astronomical photometry and imaging. Specifically optimized for Silicon CCD detectors, these filters isolate distinct spectral bands critical for stellar measurements and classification. Each filter in the set is manufactured with precise thickness control to minimize focus shifts during filter changes, while maintaining the high optical quality necessary for accurate astronomical measurements.
The spectral response curves shown here illustrate the carefully optimized transmission bands of the Kron/Cousins UBVRI filter set, specifically designed for Silicon CCD detectors.
Each filter isolates a distinct portion of the spectrum: the U (ultraviolet) filter centers around 365nm with a 60nm bandwidth, B (blue) at 440nm with 100nm bandwidth, V (visible) at 520nm with 90nm bandwidth, R (red) at 760nm with 250nm bandwidth, and I (infrared) at 800nm with 150nm bandwidth.
These precisely controlled bandpasses ensure minimal overlap between filters while maintaining high peak transmission (>50% for U and >70% for B,V,R,I), making them ideal for accurate photometric measurements.
The sharp cut-on and cut-off slopes of each filter, combined with excellent out-of-band blocking, provide the clear spectral separation required for precise astronomical measurements.
