Andover Corporation's Infrared Anti-Reflective (AR) Coatings are non-radioactive dielectric multilayer coatings designed specifically for infrared windows.
Uncoated germanium reflects roughly 36% per surface and uncoated silicon roughly 30%. With an AR coating, reflection can be reduced to less than 1% per surface within the specified band.
Germanium and silicon windows are stocked in 25 mm and 50 mm diameters, with coatings available for the 2-14, 3-5, 8-12, and 8-14 µm ranges. Custom sizes, shapes, and optical characteristics are also available.
What is an IR Anti-Reflective Coating?
An anti-reflection (AR) coating is an optical coating applied to the surface of a window or other optical element to reduce reflection. Less light lost to reflection means higher throughput, and in imaging systems it also improves contrast by cutting stray light.
The coating is built from alternating thin film layers of contrasting refractive index. Layer thicknesses are chosen to produce destructive interference in the beams reflected from the interfaces and constructive interference in the transmitted beams. Performance varies with wavelength and angle of incidence, so a wavelength range must be specified when designing or ordering a coating.
Andover produces non-radioactive dielectric multilayer coatings for germanium and silicon substrates in the infrared. Uncoated germanium reflects about 36% per surface and uncoated silicon about 30%. With an AR coating, reflection can be reduced to less than 1% per surface.
These are hard, durable first-surface dielectric coatings on optical-quality substrates, and will withstand the cleaning and handling associated with any high-quality optical component.
For your convenience and economy, we offer these windows in two standard sizes, 25 mm and 50 mm dia. Custom sizes, shapes, and optical characteristics are available on request.
